Carol Kirkwood beamed with excitement as she lovingly held a mystery man’s hand – just months before announcing her engagement live on TV but failed to disclose her fiancé’s identity.
The gushing couple were seen wandering around the aisles of a supermarket as they stocked up on essentials and were then pictured sharing a laugh and a joke as they sat in car to make their way home.
A source told MailOnline that Carol is still with the man she was photographed with last year after the shopping trip close to her Berkshire home and that he is the one she is about to tie the knot with.
The source said: ‘They’ve been an item for quite a while and are still together. He spends a lot of time at Carol’s lovely home by the River Thames. She’s gone to great lengths to keep details about him a secret, but it won’t stay that way for long. It’s just a matter of time before we know more about him.
‘They looked very much in love even though they were only shopping in a supermarket and made a lovely couple.’
The Scottish weather presenter, 59, announced her engagement this morning as she chatted to BBC Breakfast hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay while she broadcast live from the Chelsea Flower Show.
After posing for pictures, she beamed that she was ‘over the moon’ when asked how she felt by photographers.

Do YOU know who Carol’s fiancé is?
Carol, who was married to property developer Jimmy Kirkwood for 18 years until they divorced in 2008, is believed to have met the mystery man around five years ago.
Speaking live on TV, she told her fellow BBC presenters that her partner proposed during a picnic.
She said: ‘We got engaged when we were on holiday so it’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled. We went out for a picnic, I had no idea’.
‘The weather was glorious. We were sitting, chatting, my other half was a wee bit nervous for some reason that I didn’t know, he was fumbling in his pocket and out came a ring. I thought he was joking actually, I didn’t believe him to start with, but it was lovely – it was quite romantic.’
Carol has previously said she and her partner have both agreed to keep their relationship private, but gushed that he is the ‘best thing that’s ever happened to me’.
Chatting with Prima Magazine in 2021, the TV star said: ‘He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic – it’s 2.45am and he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work. That, to me, is worth a million red roses’.
Today Carol revealed the happy news as she appeared live from Chelsea Flower Show.
As soon as the camera panned to her, Sally and Jon were more keen to hear about her good news than the show.
Noticing the glimmering ring on her left hand, Sally teased: ‘I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning, I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand,’ as Jon laughed beside her.
Blushing, the weathercaster let out a giggle and said: ‘Oh that one? Thanks, yeah it is rather nice, I got engaged’
Private: Despite keeping the relationship with her mystery fiance fairly under wraps in public, Carol, pictured admiring her engagement ring today, has previously gushed that her beau was the ‘best thing that’s ever happened to me’

Pushing Carol to spill some details, Sally continued: ‘Can we confirm to the nation what’s happened?’
‘I think you just have Sal! Yes I got engaged.’
A delighted Jon said that he and everyone in the studio were ‘chuffed’ for Carol, as Sally began a round of applause for her colleague.
Jokingly questioning if Carol was ‘looking for a marquee’ while at the flower show, the star said that they had ‘no plans’ for the nuptials just yet.
Carol was previously married to cricket player Jimmy Kirkwood, but the pair split in 2008 after 18 years of marriage.

Carol previously spoke about her divorce in an interview with the Radio Times.
The weather presenter had married Jimmy in 1990, but parted ways in 2008. Their divorce was finalised in 2012.
‘I found myself when I got divorced. I started to do things and to think, “I’m not going to say no, I’m going to say yes.
‘I’m braver now. I’ve flown with the Red Arrows, jumped out of planes with the Red Devils.’
Following her divorce, Carol went on to star in Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 with her dance partner Pasha Kovalev, and spoke about her love life after the demise of her marriage.
‘I was married for a long time, and I got married quite young, so it’s nice doing things I have the freedom to do now, if I want to go out to the theatre or go out with friends for dinner, I’ve got that freedom.’
A year after starring on the show, Carol said she was seeing someone, stating: ‘I’m very happy in my relationship status at the moment. I’m not single. I’d just started seeing somebody, so it was ok, it didn’t matter.’
