The Platinum Jubilee dessert: Brits unimpressed
This year’s winning pudding was the Jubilee Lemon Trifle, but it has received some mixed opinions.
It is a lemon swiss roll style trifle designed by Jemma Melvin, and it won the competition held by Fortnum & Mason.
Some Brits were shocked by the winning dessert and took to Twitter to complain about the long ingredient list and tricky method.
One wrote: “Fortnum&Mason held contest for platinum jubilee dessert ‘simple enough for home bakers’. The winner required making lemon curd, lemon/orange jelly, amaretti, mandarin coulis, custard, chocolate bark, swiss rolls from scratch. Um.”
Another said: “I have read the platinum jubilee pudding now, and now understand the tweets about shortages of tinned mandarins, but I have to say I don’t really fancy it…”
A third added: “I tried to make the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pudding and hope I never see another trifle as long as I live.”
